Chacaya School is a parent cooperative school in rural Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Sharing the Dream in Guatemala (STDG), a non profit in South Dakota, USA, collaborated with a parent committee in the village of Chacaya and others to construct a new school.  In January of 2007, STDG was successful in purchasing land for the new school. UniCafe, a local coffee company, built the school which was opened in October 2008. There a currently 178 students, Kindergarten – 6th grade. Although the school is new, there are few books, educational supplies or equipment. One classroom has 51 mixed-grade students because there are no funds for another teacher.  The seventh classroom sits empty.

Targeted School Needs: The office for the Principal is also completely empty. None of the six classroom teachers has a desk or chair; three classrooms have no black board; and all classrooms lack basic classroom supplies.
