Student Scholarship - Guatemala

Juana is the first student the Compassionate Travel Foundation has sponsored through Sharing the Dream, a US noprofit working in Guatemala.

sharingthedream.org

We have covered the first year of middle school tuition and will continue to cover her tuition until she graduates as long as she gets good grades and does her volunteer hours. . More information on Juana and her family is below.

Juana is the oldest of six children in a very nice close knit family. Her parents are very excited that she was able-to finish primary school. They dream that she will be able to complete high school and continue in college to study medicine.

Juana's father is very involved with the Chacaya School where Juana studies. He was part of the founding committee a few years ago and he still wants to be involved with the school because he knows that this school is a benefit for the community as well as for his other children. He works the fields for other people and when he does not have work with others he works on his own piece of land. Juana's mother takes care of the children and the home.

Both Mom and Dad make beaded jewelry too. Juana helps her mother with the other children and when she is not studying, she also makes jewelry to earn spending money. Juana wants to continue studying, but the family is not able to pay the fees. They are a very religious family and believe that a Sharing the Dream scholarship is God's answer to her dream of further education.
